"My passion lies in building a career and a life that honours the basic principles of humanity," says Ethiopian born Helina Meri . "And, I am motivated by people whose paths are guided by love, compassion and determination." In 1999, she enrolled with the University of Virginia and completed her undergraduate degree in 2003. "While I was studying for my bachelor's degree, a friend and I co-founded the first African student's association at our university," says Helina. "It was truly a memorable moment in the history of the university." Helina then went on to spend 18 months at the University of Cape Town, where she obtained her Master’s in Development Studies. Whilst studying at the University of Cape Town, Helina played an invaluable role at DEVELOPMENT WORKS, consolidating projects and assisting in the expansion of the company. Previous experience includes working for the Alternative Information Development Centre in Cape Town, the Ethiopian American Constituency in the Washington DC metropolitan area, as well as for the national headquarters of the Jubilee movement. After graduating with her Master’s degree, Helina returned to the States where she is currently working to launch a web-based networking portal. Helina works for DEVELOPMENT WORKS as an associate, tasked with expanding its international programmes.
