Carolyn Meads is an all-round media professional skilled in writing, editing, translation, online content management, photography, videography, layout, basic web design and social media. A Capetonian, born and bred, Carolyn studied at Stellenbosch University and completed three degrees cum laude. In 2006 she graduated from a BA course with Political Science, Afrikaans and English as major subjects, in 2007 from a BA Honours course in Afrikaans and Dutch and in 2008 she completed a BPhil degree in Journalism. Her interest in online journalism was sparked by a module that formed part of her Journalism course and she furthered her knowledge of this subject with a short course in web design at City Varsity. Carolyn has also completed a training course on the content management system Joomla. Carolyn was Current Affairs Editor of the student newspaper Die Matie and editor of Stellenbosch Media Forum, an annual publication produced by the Department of Journalism. She has worked as a freelance journalist for a number of newspapers, magazines and websites. Carolyn works for Development Works as the Communications Officer responsible for Writing, Editing and Online Content. Carolyn is responsible for updating the Development Works website, compiling and sending out the newsletter and updating the company's social media pages. She also does communications work for Development Works' clients in the development sector. She has for instance edited documents for National Treasury, the Western Cape Education Department and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. She has written content for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport's website and a booklet on the Constitution for the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. She has also conceptualised, written, edited and managed the design, layout and printing of newsletters for the National Alliance for the Development of Community Advice Offices. |
"Writing, politics, social issues and the internet - all of these interest me greatly," Carolyn Meads says. "For me, combining them in my job is ideal." She has always wanted to do work that she enjoys and that makes a difference.
