Trey Smith, Political Studies Researcher

Trey SmithTrey possesses a robust desire for adventure and a strong sense of public service. During his time at the College of Charleston, where he earned a BA in Philosophy, Trey spent a year abroad studying at the University of Cape Town here in South Africa. Trey’s time here made such an impression on him that he returned to South Africa after graduation to work for the Parliamentary Monitoring Group. Following that experience Trey made his way to England to attend the University of Sussex where he received a MA in Political and Social Thought. While seeking this degree Trey served as an assistant student editor for the departmental journal. Once again Trey was drawn back to South Africa after completing a degree and this time found a position with Hoops for Hopes. While in his hometown of Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA, Trey worked as a teacher in a public school and spent after school hours working for the Spartanburg County Democratic Party. Trey moved back home in June 2008 and continues to work in the development sector.
