Sharon Machanzi“In our quest for success, we should take time to connect with each other,” says Zimbabwean-born Sharon Machanzi. “Human bonds will help us overcome whatever challenges we may face personally and professionally.” Sharon is currently studying a Masters degree in Peace, Leadership and governance at Africa University in Zimbabwe. Fluent in English and Shona, Sharon has also completed her BSc honours degree in Psychology from the University of Zimbabwe, writing her thesis on ‘Adults perceptions on children’s rights.’ “The youth are the future and women have a lot more potential than they are given credit for,” she says. “Empowering both will make a better future for all.” She previously worked as a Field Officer on an outreach programme for the SOS Children’s Villages Youth Programmes, focusing on HIV/AIDS education and community service. In 2005 she also worked for Hear the Word Ministries, as an Orphan Outreach Field officer, upholding children’s rights, food distribution and life-skills workshops. In her capacity as an associate, Sharon is a researcher for DEVELOPMENT WORKS. “In the future, I see myself establishing an NGO or consultancy, specifically targeting youth, women and human rights.”
