International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM) is an international non-profit product development partnership of stakeholders with one common interest – to develop safe effective microbicides to prevent HIV infection in women.

In September 2008, CREATIVE CONSULTING & DEVELOPMENT WORKS was contracted by IPM to carry out the note-taking on behalf of IPM at their Clinical Affairs Annual Meeting held in Cape Town. This meeting formed part of a series of sessions hosted by IPM, which served to fulfill its mandate in accelerating the development and availability of safe effective microbicides for prevention of HIV infection during sexual intercourse.

Scientists, researchers, clinical research teams, social and economic development organisations, private sector companies, community leaders and liaison officers convened to look at the work of HIV prevention through use of microbicides. The Meeting took place over a one-month period and consisted of a series of workshops, meetings, plenary and breakaway sessions and discussions. The DEVELOPMENT WORKS team conducted the note-taking. Given the series of meetings, it was important for the team to create a set of guidelines that would be adhered to.

These guidelines proved useful as they helped maintain a common understanding of how to capture the proceedings. These included information from discussions, presentations and the plenary. Accuracy and consistency were key and the team benefited from the established guidelines. Notes from the Clinical Affairs Meeting were documented appropriately and then compiled into one consolidated report.
