The creative industries are strategically positioned to contribute to the growth of South Africa’s economy. The music industry, in particular, has the capacity for economic and export-oriented growth.

This was the thinking behind the establishment of Cape Music Industry Commission (Cape MIC), a music sector body, or special purpose vehicle (SPV). Cape MIC was set up to leverage the music industry to be a competitor on the business and economic front. CREATIVE CONSULTING & DEVELOPMENT WORKS was brought on board by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism to project-manage and provide technical assistance in Cape MIC’s establishment.

The support provided by CREATIVE CONSULTING & DEVELOPMENT WORKS ensured a cohesive approach to getting Cape MIC up and running as a legal entity. Key tasks included:

•    Facilitating and managing the sourcing of relevant service providers for the creation of a website

•    Facilitating and managing the sourcing of relevant service providers for the development of a brand

•    Appointing a chief executive officer (CEO)

•    Developing a three year business plan

•    Lending administrative and operational support with Board meetings
